A lot of effort has been put into setting up trails, setting up some restrooms on the way,... The last part of the hike is steep and even though rocks have been arranged to a path, it could be tricky while climbing down.
A great experience đź‘Ť
If the weather is good, you get to see the amazing views
Challenging walk for sure so be ready for sore legs after words :D about 2h up, is beautiful but I thought is worth it more as walk was not easy .
It’s a beautiful place to be. There is a long trail and you will enjoy walking here. There is enough paid car parking space. There are many historical places nearby, so it’s an opportunity to explore. We visited on a windy and rainy day in winter time, so it was tough to get into the top, however should be easy in summer time.
Love this mountain. Would highly recommend this as a climb. Views are spectacular on a clear day.
Highly recommend - but come prepared! We hiked Croagh Patrick on our honeymoon. The first section is steep with moderate terrain, the second section was flat, but the last section was very challenging (about a 20-30 minute climb). There are loose rocks stacked on top of each other on a steep climb to the top. I was nervous about losing my footing, but the rocks almost never wobbled as long as you were careful and stayed on the path. Coming down was more challenging than going up, but we just took our time. It took us less than 2 hours to get to the top, but more than 2 hours to get back down. My husband is a more experienced hiker than me and could have done it faster, and most people on the mountain seemed to come down faster than we did (we are in good shape, our slow pace was due to terrain we had never hiked in before).
I can't imagine doing the hike without a walking stick (many people used 2, but some hikers did not use them). Hiking boots are a must, and I recommend wearing lots of layers. The weather changed quickly and drastically throughout our hike, and the summit was very chilly. There are no trees on the mountain, so it was super windy!
The hike is a very special pilgrimage and is absolutely worth the effort to get to the top! Although I was admittedly nervous while climbing up and down near the summit, it truly was the highlight of our honeymoon and I would surely do it again!
It's not a race, take your time and enjoy the climb. Views not just from the top but the whole way are spectacular. Really recommend wearing appropriate clothes and shoes. Which I didn't as it was a spur of the moment thing to climb it.
A good climb. Wear good shoes. The most amazing views. Takes roughly 2 hours up. Take it steady going down. Toilets midway and at the top so handy.
Even if it is a tough hike. The view is amazing.
